to myself and those who will read it:
architectural education is failing architects and designers, but more importantly it is preparing you to fail the inhabitants of your designed environments.
despite what institutions would have you believe, you are far closer to your “user” than your client/patron (unless, of course, your paycheck is from a cooperative or community).
the generational wealth and other privileges afforded to those with the means to commission pieces of the built environment are far removed from the actual work that you will do.
forget their needs as much as you can. they’re already being served.
ask the people, include them along the way. they know more than you do and ever will.
do not forget that you, the almighty designer, are not above your class peers.
your neighbors flip burgers, mix drinks, pour concrete, and watch tv when they get home from work
design with them, not for them.
